Position: Farm Supervisor (NOC 82030) (Teer 2)
Location: Shackan Indian Band, 2099 Granite Ave, Merritt, BC V1K 1B8
Salary: $24-$26 per hour (with incremental raises based on job performance).
Hours of Work: 40 hours per week
Schedule: Mondays through Fridays (time varies). Additional hours are required during peak seasonal times.

JOB SUMMARY:
The Farm Supervisor oversees daily operations at Shackan Nursery's greenhouse facility, which focuses on cultivating native plant species for ecological restoration in wildfire-affected areas, growing vegetables and fruits for community consumption and local farmers' markets, and producing ornamentals for retail and wholesale markets.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervision & Management
· Supervise and coordinate Shackan Nursery staff in the greenhouse, outside production areas, and market garden. Staff duties include planting, irrigation, monitoring, harvesting, and preparing for the distribution of all species grown at the nursery production areas and off-site locations.
· Oversee workforce coordination and scheduling, including managing both seasonal and full-time employees to ensure an appropriate staff level is available to meet high and low production needs and order fulfilment.
· Train and supervise new workers in safe handling, planting techniques, and greenhouse operations.
· Manage staff recruitment and performance evaluations to ensure a motivated and productive team.
· Manage budgets.
· Act as the operational lead in the absence of the Nursery Manager, ensuring continuity of work and team supervision.
Propagation and Production
· Monitor crop conditions to identify plant health issues. Oversee irrigation systems, plant nutrition, and integrated pest management for optimal growth and quality.
· Plan and supervise the collection of seeds from natural landscapes to ensure the continuation of native plant propagation and to meet customer orders.
· Assist in developing and implementing seasonal planting and harvesting schedules aligned with restoration goals and community needs.
Facilities and Equipment Maintenance
· Operate and maintain greenhouse equipment and vehicles, including side-by-sides and trucks for transportation.
· Maintain and inspect irrigation systems to ensure effective water distribution across all planting areas, including the greenhouse, outside propagation areas, market garden, and offsite locations.
· Monitor inventory of hard goods and facilities equipment and manage supplies procurement for all locations.
· Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards.
Reporting and Records
· Responsible for maintaining detailed records of planting activities, crop performance, seed collection, and inventory in both paper and digital formats.
· Prepare reports on crop results and production outcomes for internal and external stakeholders.
· Build and maintain relationships with community partners, restoration groups, retail and wholesale customers, and local markets.
Qualifications & Experience:
· Minimum of 1 to 2 years of supervisory experience in greenhouses, agriculture, and/or retail operations.
· Practical experience with crop planting, irrigation systems, and seasonal planting.
· Ability to lead teams, manage performance, and foster a positive work environment.
· Experience with budgeting, recordkeeping, and documentation.
· Ability to operate light vehicles and small equipment safely and responsibly.
· Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
· Understanding of native plant species and ecological restoration is an asset.

· Occasional travel within the local region for seed collection, transportation of orders, procuring supplies, and community support.
