Position Overview
The Industrial designer will be responsible for translating conceptual art and architectural visions into technically viable, manufacturable designs. You’ll work closely with industrial designers, engineers, fabricators, and project managers to develop detailed 3D models, shop drawings, and mechanical assemblies that bring our creative installations to life.

$44.23/hour – Annual $92,000.00

Key Responsibilities
Develop detailed 3D CAD models and 2D fabrication drawings for custom lighting, kinetic sculptures, and architectural installations.
Collaborate with the design and production teams to engineer creative concepts into manufacturable components.
Design mechanical assemblies, mounting systems, and structural supports that ensure both aesthetic and functional integrity.
Select appropriate materials, fasteners, and fabrication methods suited for artistic yet durable installations.
Work with vendors and fabricators to ensure mechanical feasibility and cost-effective production.
Review and approve prototype and production builds, resolving any design or mechanical issues.
Assist with installation planning, including assembly guides and mounting details.
Maintain and organize design documentation, drawings, and revision histories in alignment with company standards.
Support R&D efforts exploring new materials, finishes, and fabrication technologies.
Consult with clients, engineers, and production specialists to define product requirements and align creative vision with technical feasibility.
Analyze intended product use and user preferences to ensure designs meet both functional and aesthetic goals.
Conduct research into materials, costs, and production methods to balance creativity with manufacturability.
Qualifications
Required:
Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Design, Mechanical Engineering, or Industrial Design.
2+ years of experience in mechanical design or fabrication, preferably within a custom design/build, lighting, or architectural product environment.
Proficiency in SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Rhinoceros, Adobe Photoshop or equivalent 3D CAD software.
Ability to read and produce engineering drawings and schematics to manufacturing standards.
Preferred:
Experience designing kinetic or illuminated structures, interactive installations, or architectural features.
Familiarity with lighting systems, wiring layouts, or electrical integration.
Knowledge of DFM/DFA principles, and experience working with external fabricators.
Experience with rendering software (KeyShot, Rhino, or similar) is a plus.
Strong understanding of metal fabrication, CNC machining, laser cutting, and assembly techniques.
Excellent problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.
