Supervisor – Inventory and Manufactured Parts
NOC: 12013
Salary: $80,000 - $85,000 yearly (depending on experience)
Positions Available: 1
Type: Permanent - Full time (40 hrs. per week.)
Vulcan Compression Ltd. is a locally owned machine shop operating in and around the Peace Region. We specialize in the repair and maintenance of natural gas reciprocating compressors and their serviceable components.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Department Participation
Attend production and inventory meetings to review schedules, issues, and priorities.
Build strong knowledge of customers, parts, suppliers, equipment, drawings, and materials.
Monitor CNC/machining industry trends and recommend improvements.
Approve purchases, invoices, and maintain departmental training and quality manuals.
Support annual inventory counts and prepare reports as needed.
2. Inventory Management
Prepare annual forecasts for purchased parts and raw materials based on business goals.
Recommend and support branch inventory levels and coordinate purchase orders.
Source suppliers, negotiate pricing, and expand supplier base.
Monitor parts usage, adjust min/max levels, and track supplier performance.
Oversee receiving, inventory data entry, freight cost allocation, and pricing updates.
Identify shortages and approve urgent sourcing when required.
Assign and oversee Parts Administrators’ daily tasks, paperwork, and job preparation.
Manage seal repairs and optimize parts storage configurations.
3. Manufacturing Parts
Determine manufacturing priorities, adjust machinist schedules, and track material/labour/tooling costs.
Communicate unexpected costs to Sales Administrators.
Compare cost efficiency of purchasing vs. manufacturing parts.
Maintain manufacturing schedules and ensure CNC programs and tooling inventories are current.
Implement maintenance schedules, promote safety culture, and monitor departmental productivity.
Participate in safety meetings and oversee machining tools inventory.
Coordinate with Shipping & Receiving and support additional shift implementation.
Ensure process controls, quality assurance, and documentation are maintained.
4. Quoting, Estimating & Sales Support
Provide pricing and availability to Sales Administrators.
Prepare pricing for new parts and support customer inventory programs.
5. Human Resources & People Management
Manage vacation planning, hiring, onboarding, and mentoring of department staff.
Conduct performance reviews and recommend staffing changes when needed.
Create development plans and manage staff scheduling to avoid production risks.
Promote corporate values, collaboration, and cross-departmental alignment.
Education & Certification Requirements:
· Bachelor’s degree in a related technical or trade discipline (Mechanical Engineering Technology, Industrial Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, Automotive Technology, or equivalent).
· Minimum 2-4 years of work experience in supply chain particularly procurement, preferably in an industrial, automotive, or heavy equipment environment.
· Red Seal Parts Technician (Partsperson) Certification or eligible for certification an asset.
Skills Qualifications:
· Technical understanding of reciprocating compressors and chemical processes is key
· Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail in inventory management
· Proficiency in data entry, purchasing, sourcing, and negotiation skills
· IT-proficient, decisive and capable with stewardship approach to team leadership, and strong organizational skills at both personal and departmental levels
· Experience with Microsoft Office Suite® Excel and Word
· Able to multi-task and meet challenges directly
· Experience supervising, mentoring, and supporting Parts Technicians and Parts Administration personnel in daily operations.
· Experience in Sage Accounting or equivalent an asset
· Forklift experience an asset.
