About the Position
Norton McMullen LLP is seeking a detail-oriented and organized Accounting Technician to join our team in Markham, Ontario. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining financial records, preparing financial reports, reconciling accounts, and supporting accounting operations in a professional accounting environment.
Key Responsibilities
The Accounting Technician will perform some or all of the following duties:
Maintain complete and accurate financial records using manual and computerized bookkeeping systems.
Establish, maintain, and balance various accounts.
Post journal entries and reconcile bank and general ledger accounts.
Prepare trial balances and assist in the preparation of financial statements.
Maintain general ledgers and accounting records.
Calculate and prepare payroll cheques and related payroll documentation.
Process and prepare payments for utilities, taxes, and other business expenses.
Complete and submit tax remittance forms and other government filings.
Prepare workers' compensation, pension contribution, and other statutory reporting documents.
Assist with the preparation of personal and corporate tax returns.
Generate statistical, financial, and accounting reports for management review.
Verify the accuracy of financial transactions and accounting procedures.
Assist in month-end and year-end accounting processes.
Ensure compliance with accounting policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
Employment Requirements
Education
College, CEGEP, or other non-university certificate or diploma in Accounting, Bookkeeping, Finance, or a related field (1–2 year program); or
Equivalent accounting education and training consistent with NOC 12200 requirements.
Experience
Minimum 1 year to less than 2 years of related accounting or bookkeeping experience.
Skills and Qualifications
Strong knowledge of bookkeeping principles and accounting procedures.
Experience with computerized accounting systems.
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
Strong organizational and time-management skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Effective written and verbal communication skills in English.
