JOB DESCRIPTION – LONG-HAUL TRUCK DRIVER
Position Summary
We are seeking a reliable, safety-conscious, and experienced Long-Haul Truck Driver to operate tractor-trailer units for the transportation of goods over long-distance routes. The successful candidate will be responsible for safely operating and maintaining the assigned vehicle, completing required inspections and documentation, complying with transportation regulations, and ensuring that shipments are delivered safely and on schedule. The position involves overnight travel, physically demanding work, extended periods of sitting, and working in varying road and weather conditions.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
Operate tractor-trailer trucks and transport goods over long-distance and interprovincial routes.
Conduct comprehensive pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections of the vehicle, trailer, and equipment to ensure safe operating condition.
Check tires, brakes, lights, coupling devices, fluid levels, safety equipment, and other components before and during trips.
Complete and maintain driver logbooks, trip reports, inspection reports, maintenance records, and other transportation documentation accurately and on time.
Record and report any vehicle defects, mechanical issues, accidents, delays, or other incidents to the appropriate supervisor or dispatcher.
Prepare and submit dangerous goods occurrence reports when required.
Operate CB radios and other communication equipment to communicate with dispatchers, drivers, customers, and other transportation personnel.
Use GPS, electronic navigation systems, trip recorders, and on-board computers to plan and monitor routes and trips.
Follow assigned routes, schedules, delivery instructions, and transportation procedures.
Secure and inspect cargo to ensure that loads are transported safely and in accordance with applicable requirements.
Verify shipping documents, bills of lading, delivery documents, and other transportation records.
Pick up and deliver freight at designated locations while maintaining professional communication with customers and receiving personnel.
Comply with applicable federal, provincial, and territorial transportation laws, hours-of-service requirements, company policies, and workplace safety procedures.
Maintain the cleanliness and general condition of the truck, trailer, tools, and safety equipment.
Report required maintenance and repair needs and cooperate with maintenance personnel to ensure vehicles remain roadworthy.
Respond appropriately to changing road, traffic, weather, and delivery conditions.
Maintain a high level of attention to detail while operating the vehicle and handling transportation documentation.
Perform other transportation-related duties as required by the employer.
Education Requirements
Secondary (high) school graduation certificate.
Experience Requirements
7 months to less than 1 year of relevant truck-driving experience.
Experience operating tractor-trailer units and completing long-haul transportation assignments is required.
Required Credentials and Licences
Valid Class 1 or Class A driver's licence.
Air Brakes Endorsement.
Valid driver's licence with an acceptable driving record.
Ability to provide a driver's abstract and driver's licence validity check.
Technical Skills and Knowledge
The successful candidate should have knowledge and/or experience with:
Tractor-trailer operation.
Long-haul transportation.

Work Conditions and Physical Requirements
