Jasper Rock and Jade Ltd. is seeking a knowledgeable and experienced Retail Store Supervisor for a permanent, full-time position at our specialty retail store in Jasper, Alberta.
Jasper Rock and Jade specialize in rocks, minerals, crystals, gemstones and related merchandise. Because of the specialized nature of our inventory, the successful applicant must have both retail supervisory experience and demonstrated knowledge of rocks, minerals, crystals, gemstones and basic geology.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
Supervise and coordinate the daily activities of retail sales staff.
Prepare and coordinate employee work schedules and assign duties.
Open and close the store, including opening and closing tills, completing cash procedures and securing the premises.
Provide knowledgeable customer service regarding rocks, minerals, crystals, gemstones and related specialty merchandise.
Assist customers with identifying common rocks, minerals, crystals and gemstones and explain their characteristics, origins, formation and other relevant geological information.
Train and assist sales staff in developing sufficient product knowledge to accurately explain specialty merchandise to customers.
Monitor product pricing and ensure merchandise is accurately priced and displayed.
Maintain attractive and organized merchandising displays, with particular attention to the proper identification and presentation of mineral, crystal, gemstone and rock specimens.
Monitor inventory levels and place or assist with orders for merchandise and store supplies.
Receive, inspect, sort and shelve incoming merchandise from suppliers.
Verify incoming specialty merchandise against purchase orders and product descriptions.
Prepare reports regarding sales volumes, inventory, merchandising and personnel matters.
Assist with recruiting, onboarding and training new employees.
Resolve customer complaints, inventory shortages and other operational issues.
Authorize merchandise returns, exchanges and applicable payment transactions.
Oversee daily customer service, cashiering, merchandising and general store operations.
Assist management with employee timekeeping and payroll administration.
Review employee timesheets and hours worked for accuracy and identify discrepancies prior to payroll processing.
Compile and prepare employee hours and payroll information for submission to the company’s payroll/bookkeeping system.
Maintain organized employee scheduling, timekeeping and payroll-related records.
Use spreadsheets, including Microsoft Excel or equivalent software, for scheduling, payroll information, inventory and operational reporting.

Ability to work independently and under pressure during busy tourism periods.

Combination of standing, walking and occasional sitting.
Standing for extended periods.
Handling, receiving and shelving merchandise.
Ability to safely lift and move boxes and merchandise as required.
Weekends, holidays and varied shift availability may be required.
Education and Experience Requirements
Completion of secondary school is required.
Previous retail sales experience is required.
Demonstrated knowledge of rocks, minerals, crystals and gemstones is strongly preferred.
Ability to identify common mineral, rock, crystal and gemstone specimens and explain their characteristics to customers is strongly preferred.
Knowledge of basic geology, including rock and mineral formation and general Earth history, is strongly preferred.
Experience working with or selling rocks, minerals, crystals, gemstones, fossils or comparable specialty geological merchandise is strongly preferred.
Strong verbal communication and customer-service skills are required.
Compensation and Benefits
Wage: $21.00 per hour for approximately 30–40 hours per week
Vacation: 4% vacation pay or 10 days of paid vacation, as applicable.
