JOB DUTIES
- Troubleshoot, inspect and diagnose faults and malfunctions in heavy-duty equipment, airport ground support equipment and associated systems.
- Use computerized diagnostic tools, electronic testing equipment and other testing devices to identify faults and determine the extent of required repairs.
- Adjust, repair or replace defective parts and components using hand tools and specialized equipment.
- Repair and maintain electrical and electronic equipment, including electrical control and engine-control systems.
- Diagnose and repair diesel-engine systems, including fuel-injection, exhaust, cooling and lubrication systems.
- Diagnose, service and repair hydraulic systems, hydraulic-operated working attachments and hydraulic transmissions.
- Service and repair pumps, electric generators, industrial lift trucks, forklifts and loaders.
- Inspect, repair and maintain mechanical transmissions, drive trains, final drives, wheel-mounted suspension and steering systems, differentials and brake systems.
- Test repaired equipment to confirm proper performance and compliance with manufacturers' specifications.
- Clean and lubricate equipment and perform scheduled preventive and routine maintenance.
- Maintain accurate service and repair records.
- Advise the supervisor of required repairs, parts and equipment condition.
EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS
- Secondary school graduation certificate.
- At least five years of relevant experience repairing and maintaining heavy-duty equipment, commercial vehicles, industrial equipment or ground support equipment.
- Demonstrated experience with both diesel-powered and electrically controlled equipment.
- Experience diagnosing electrical, electronic, hydraulic and mechanical faults.
- Experience using computerized and electronic diagnostic equipment.
- Valid driver's licence.
- Ability to perform physically demanding work, including handling heavy loads, bending, crouching and kneeling.
- Ability to work in dusty and noisy shop environments.
- Dependable, organized and reliable, with strong attention to detail.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE
Substantial practical experience in several of the following areas: diesel fuel-injection, exhaust, engine cooling and lubrication, engine-control and electrical control systems; electronic testing and diagnostics; hydraulic systems and hydraulic-operated attachments; pumps and electric generators; industrial lift trucks and forklifts; loaders and related ground support equipment; mechanical and hydraulic transmissions; drive trains and final drives; wheel-mounted suspension and steering; differentials and brakes.
